Utila is a very small island, with limited health systems available, the Governor of the Bay Island had temporarily closed all ports and points of access into the Island. This help protect the health of the residents from the spread of COVID-19 but has caused severe economical impact to the island which is very much dependent on tourism. It also impacted the ability to bring food and other items into the ports. This is where #SupportUtila comes in!
With the first set of donations to #SupportUtila we addressed very basic food needs of the island. We purchased and shipped from the mainland over 10,000 lbs of food that has been distributed to the residents of Utila. Thanks to our incredible volunteers on the island, we packaged and distributed meals for people on both Utila proper and the Cays. Food distribution continues to be one of the foundation items that we provide including baby food and milk for children.
